Echinoderm research

I have been working on this installation project since the beginning of 2006, and it began when I was asked to submit a proposal for New Zealand Sculpture Onshore 2006.

This project has resulted from research I have undertaken this year on deepsea creatures such as corals, anemones, hydroids or zoophytes (animal plants) and the architecture of echinoderms (starfish and urchins).

Here are images showing the typical five sections of sea biscuits and heart urchins…

I just love these little urchins, their structure is amazing and the fine quality of the patterns are beautiful..

The underside of this Kina also shows the five sections…

…And the mouth piece of a Kina, also called Aristotle’s Lantern
