Long over due…

So it has been way, way too long since I have updated the old blog…

Having a new baby - and facebook (goddamn-it!) - have proven to be much too much of a distraction. Here are a few pictures of recent projects, namely ‘Afternoon Tea’ some lovely little cupcakes, a project that I have almost completed…

Also here is the completed ‘Killer Angel Fish’ - I knotted the last stitch the night before baby was born - phew!

Redfish…?

On the aquatic theme, I started this project, Redfish, ages ago, but it has since gone on the backburner with shifting house and the race to finish off the Killer Angelfish before the little one arrives.

But it’s getting there…

Killer Angelfish for baby

Apparently people under six months old really get into black and white objects and imagery - all this after spending months making the crazy colourful starfish mobile - so I have decided to make the little one a beautiful killer angelfish to hang above the bassinet.

Here’s how it’s going so far, it’s just based on a wee sketch and is of course a bit of an experiment…

I hope she likes it - I do and it’s not even finished yet, only a couple more hours…

And the starfish just keep on going…

So far for the cushionstar mobile I have thirteen starfish, and four more near completion, I have about a gazzilion colours to choose from, as far as the felt goes, and so things have been getting a bit out of hand.  I am fast using up my beads as well!

Here are some recent photos…

I do like the undersides of these little ones.

And of course, after a few starfish I wanted to try a little seadollar, a little tricky as far as creating the segments, or the appearance of there being segments, but overall it came out ok.

new booties

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

I started out making these little baskets out of this ball of course string that I had around, they are really fun and quite easy to make, not quite as soft as wool or acrylic yarns.

Then I decided to try out the pattern for these little booties for the baby, they are made from this lovely soft cotton that I picked up at an op shop a while ago - not quite enough for a whole outfit, but enough for a few little pairs of shoes.  Next I’m making some knitted slippers, quite a different look and shape to these…

Baby’s sea creature mobile

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

I decided to make a mobile for my baby, using felt I’m making a selection of my favourite sea creatures, namely cushion starfish, urchins, jellyfish and a few shells. This is proving a little tricky but so far the patterns have worked out well, I’m drafting them up based on the real thing, I have a few different types of starfish and many shells and others, the jellyfish are proving to be a little more complicated.

The process involves making some drawings of the starfish/shell/urchin then making a paper marquette to see if the pattern works. This is then adjusted so the piece looks similar to the real thing. I have beads and wire to embellish them further, and will hang each piece on some fancy beaded wire.

Here’s how it’s looking so far… the first three here are cushion stars.

Fancy new bag

workbag.jpg

Recently while digging around for goodies at mum’s place I found my nana’s old vanity case, the essential piece of luggage for the travelling lady. It is a really cool little number, lovely red interior, with a couple of compartments in the sides, an adjustable strap, mirror and is of course lockable.
Gave it a bit of a clean up, and emptied out the old cosmetic containers and it now has a new life as my work bag…

Here it is, all packed and ready to go…
